On the Exploration Place project, AAI worked for WTG Associates, LLC, a consortium of three firms: White Oak Associates, Talking Spaces and Gyroscope. The consortium was responsible for master planning, exhibition design, fabrication and installation.
Milton McClaskey was the Project Manager for Gyroscope and was responsible for the cost estimating, budget, contracting and management for Exploration Place. He worked closely with the design team during all phases of design to ensure that design could be built to budget. The project opened on time and under budget—with, in fact, a small surplus.
AAI’s responsibilities included:
• Drafting multiple form exhibit contracts and two licensing agreements
• Submitting contract drafts to the client’s legal counsel for review
• Writing scopes of work, milestones and payment schedules for all the exhibition and media contractors in collaboration with Milton McClaskey and Victor Becker of Talking Spaces
• Drafting the contracts, negotiating terms, producing revisions, securing
agreement and sending the contracts to the client for signatures
• Monitoring fabricator performance
• Authorizing fabricator payments based upon performance
• Monitoring and directing contractor performance during the actual
installation on-site through to opening
• Assisting in staff training
• Scheduling installation and coordination with building contractor.
• In addition to these duties, AAI designed a number of specialty interactive exhibits such as the Distorted Room and interactive elements of Ned Kahn’s dramatic Wind Wall sculpture.
